Egyptian football legend Mido has shed an incredible 50kg after being ridiculed over his weight.

The 36-year-old has been the butt of jokes since he uploaded a shirtless picture on Instagram last year, where many slammed him for being overweight, The Sun reports.

But the ex-Tottenham star, who earned more than 50 international caps for his country, has responded in the perfect way by losing upwards of 50kg as he revels in his new, toned physique.

Mido revealed last summer he was inspired to lose weight after relentlessly being mocked for piling on the pounds following his retirement in 2013.

His trainer Aly Mazhar said: “Hitting rock bottom after being recognised as an Egyptian football star and starting your coaching career, getting through surgery, changing your lifestyle and deciding to fully commit to it.

“Set your goal, have a plan, follow it and results will just be a matter of time.

“Most importantly BELIEVE in yourself, get the right support system around you and don’t listen to all the negative crap around us every single day.

“That’s willpower and full dedication right there. This is the MIDO we all know. Hats off.”

Mido has regularly been updating his Instagram followers with his work in the gym as he turned his rig around.

The former Middlesbrough ace is currently the manager of Saudi Arabian side Al Wehda, where he has won six out of his opening 12 games in charge.

Mido — who was compared to late drug kingpin Pablo Escobar in 2017 — was mobbed by Spurs supporters on the tube in November as they serenaded him after the North Londoners beat Chelsea.
